Dr. Christa Phipps
Therapist, Clinical Supervisor, Owner
Dr. Phipps has been a counselor for 20+ years and works primarily with children as young as age 2.5, adolescents, college-aged students, couples, families, and adult women. She specializes in a variety of issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and behavioral issues with children. However, she specializes in trauma with both children and adults.Â
Before starting her own practice, Dr. Phipps worked at Hickory Grove Counseling Center from 2005 to 2023 as a professional counselor. She became the Clinical Supervisor in 2012. She has also worked in inpatient settings, group homes, Intensive In-Home counseling, and other outpatient facilities.
As a counselor, she is humanistic in her thinking, using EMDR techniques to explore and reprocess past memories and negative cognitions. She values listening with a nonjudgmental attitude to change thought patterns that are not working. When working with young children, she uses child-centered play therapy techniques to assist in building self-esteem and EMDR to assist in changing behavior. She also teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
In her free time she loves to spend time with family. She also loves to run and hike trails with her husband and friends.
