Margaret Phipps-Bennett

Therapist

Margaret works with both adults and children. She works with adults to help them process their past and bring balance into their current lives. She focuses on a variety of issues that are facing people, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, and grief. She also works with children aged 2.5 to 12 and their families. She works with a variety of issues that children and families are facing, such as behavioral issues, trauma, and anxiety. She uses a playful approach when working with children to help build self-esteem, teach emotional regulation and boundaries, and develop appropriate responsibility. With all ages that she works with, she prioritizes processing difficult life events to help clients live in the present. She does this through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which she is trained in, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). She has specialized training in how to incorporate these interventions with children and work with families to help the whole system.

Before joining Tabonuco, Margaret worked at Hickory Grove Counseling Center as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate. Margaret also works at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a research assistant with the School of Social Work. Some of her research interests include diversity and suicide with minority youth.

She has also interned with A Child’s Place with families experiencing homelessness and UNC Charlotte Urban Institute with agencies in the Charlotte area, and is currently working towards full licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Registered Play Therapist, and a Certified EMDR Therapist. She is married and has a dog she rescued.
